We are Altra, a brand of passionate runners and movers creating a product that we use daily and are enthusiastic about inspiring the world to move naturally. We were founded in the back room of a specialty running store in the Wasatch Mountains. Since the beginning, the goal has been to create innovative and purposeful running shoes that help people run more naturally, and that is what continues to drive us today.
While working in the store, our founders noticed that despite the range of running shoes in the market and technological advances in footwear, running-related injuries seemed to be increasing. After researching and testing thousands of shoes, they discovered an opportunity to disrupt the marketplace and offer an alternative to the conventional, industry-standard tapered toe box and elevated heel. As a result, the brand was founded with natural performance in mind that encompasses Balanced Cushioning, a FootShape™ toe box, and gender-specific designs.
We have come a long way since our first shoe was released in 2011. Today, we make more than 25 different shoe models spanning road, trail, outdoor, gym, and everyday casual wear, and sell in over 50 countries across the globe.
